Whisky, or whiskey in some contexts, is essentially a distilled spirit from a fermented grain mash (or mashbill), that is then aged in wooden barrels for a period of time. It is through this aging process that whiskies gain their iconic colour, unlike other unaged spirits like gin and vodka.
There are many regions producing whisky nowadays, each with their own character and names. We can see light and harmonious blends of Japanese Whiskies, the wide spectrum of flavours of Scotches or even the sweet vanilla notes of Bourbons. And that's just scratching the surface of the rabbit hole that is whisky.
